Welcome to The OT!!

Clever handle there too, for a fisherman.

So...the BSA Catseye didn't hold up huh??

We don't like BSA much around here for that, and many other reasons.

I say the Conquest 3-9.

Good shooting!!

First off, Warne makes mounts for the Sauer 202 and SHR270 and in my opinion are the best in the buisness and can easily stand up to the 300winmag.  Secondly, while a BSA is perfectly useful for lesser powered rfiles a more rugged scope is necessary.  Stay away from Leupold.  You are paying too much for the name and advertising.  Burris FFII, great scope for the money, forget the IR.  Zeiss conquest, too much money.  Take a look at the Bushnell Elite 4200 or even 3200 series.  Very rugged scopes.  Sightron at lower mags, very rugged.  Both built in Japan and made to last.  The optics on the Bushnell are hard to beat at any price.  And if you want to step down.  A  Simmons Aetec.  I shot last year with the old Aetec 3X9 on a Howa 300winmag, 3 shots, 3 deer from 125 to 150 yards and none took a step after the shot.  Never had to re-zero or anything.  Even dropped the rilfe several feet while climbing (falling) out of a free deer stand and missing the last two rungs (between deer hunts).  With todays technology, you do not have to pay the nose bleed prices for a scope or for that matter a hunting rifle that was necessary years ago.  I am not even sure it was necessary then.

reel: Welcome to the forums.

If you do a search on this forum for each of the scopes mentioned you will see how they rate from the majority of the forum members.

All of the scopes you listed will provide far superior glass then the current scope (BSA) Out of the ones you mentioned the Zeiss Conquest will have the best glass quality, followed by the Weaver GrandSlam,  then it becomes a toss up between the Leupy and the Burris. Myself, I'd give a slight edge to the Burris over the Leupold VX II but again it will be pretty close.

I noticed that the current scope and another listed is a lighted rectile.  Is that a big priority to you?  If so, then looks like the Burris would edge out. Something to remember as compared to the BSA scope that your using the glass on the scopes you are looking at will provide far greater low light gathering capability then the current scope.  I have a Zeiss Conquest and it pulls in plenty of light to shoot well past legal or ethical shooting hours so a lighted rectile is really not necessary to me.

My personal opinion is I think the Conquest is about the best buy out there in terms of glass and I highly recommend it to someone who is willing to pay for it.  It has great glass and a good amount of eye relief for those shoulder smackers.  For someone who does not want to quite pay for the Zeiss I also highly recommend the Weaver Grand Slam or the Bushnell 4200 Elite.  Both are very good glass and the 4200 is so very close to my Conquest on a side to side comparison during a non scientific experiment.  However, both of those scopes have relative short eye relief so for someone who is shooting a gun that kicks or someone who creeps up on a scope they can get bit.

The Burris Fullfield is a very good entry level scope. I dont think the glass is up to the other mentioned with the exception of the Leupold but its durable and a well made scope. Leupold makes a great scope BUT I personally think that they over rated for what you get. You can get the same performance at the same of less money.  In the same catagory as the Burris Fullfield is the Nikon Buckmaster which also is a very nice scope and stepping up a bit more is the Nikon Monarch. Also if you can live without the lighted recticle you might want to look at the Burris Signature series as well as the Pentax Whitetails Unlimited or Lightseeker line which are made by Burris. I would not go with the Pentax scopes not made in the USA (personal preference) they are the Pioneer and the Gameseeker.

Good luck welcome to the forums and let us know what scope you decide on.

Take care

AC

Just a quick comment on Pentax Pioneer.  It is the same scope as Burris Fullfield II and is made in the same factory in the Phillipines.

The Leupold QR rings and bases are absolutely first rate, and some of the best available.
