I am wanting a new scope for my Model 700 LTR in 308.  The gun is used for hunting deer and where I hunt shots can be 30 feet to 400+ yards.  Of course, I will be practicing to those ranges.  I would like a scope with a high range of 14-16 power, ranging type reticle (no mildots), and in the $300-$650 range.  What say ye!

Add this one to your list.

Interestingly, that is the one Minox scope I do not like.  I do like the 3-15x50.

I wish I had my scope longer, I have a similiar dilema. I just recieved my Vortex Viper HS LS 4-16x44. It has a nice BDC reticle that is laid out in MOA. I have another post on my only concern, which would be seeing the thin crosshairs in low light on a darker background such as a deer. but the glass and the construction seem to be very nice.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

I considered the Vortex Viper HS until I spoke with their CS and found out the BDC was a good bit thinner than that of the regular Viper line.  I would love the regular Viper but it only comes in a 4-12 model.

My thoughts as well, I would maybe go down to the 4-12 but wish it had a bigger objective like the 44 or maybe 50.

Why are you opposed to a mil dot? This would help you use your rifle to it's full capabilty. If you forget your laser range finder you can even range deer with your mils.

Skip the Minox. I've posted my thoughts on them in another thread you can probably dig it up if you're interested. I think they're junk.

I'd put a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14 44mm on your list.

No need for a hubble if your only making chip shots out to 400, get a fixed 6x....just my opinion though.

As for not wanting mildots I just don't like that busy a reticle for hunting.  I'm sure if I spent time with it I might feel differently, but my shooting consists of working up loads for hunting and shooting at different distances to know the trajectory of my gun(s).
