I know there quality in camera, but what is there quality like in scopes?  Also I see that the gamekeeper line is drastically cheaper than all the other lines.  Doe anyone knows why.  I am just looking for an inexpensive scope to put on a 270 I inhareitated form my grandfather.  It will probably just going to be used for some range time and plinking.

Thanks
Majja

What is your budget? You can get a decent new fixed power scope for around $200 or (if you can stand the abuse from the elitists) you can get a minty Redfield or Weaver 60 series fixed power for $100 or less on ebay.I have a bunch of the latter and they work just fine for 95% of real world applications. For what you plan to use it for, a fixed 4 or 6 would work fine. I'd be happy to assist if you go the ebay route.

Thanks for the info, I was probaly going to jsut go with Nikon and was killing some time here at work and stumbled on the gamekeepers.  I have played with the other Pentex offering before and they seem good.  But a quarter of the price it is one of the things that make you scratch your head and go hmmm.  This is just my summer time saving money project at this time, but thanks for the offer on ebay.

Pentax higher end scopes used to be made by BURRIS in the USA,but I recently checked out a PENTAX 6X42 at a sporting goods store.Attracted by the $99.00 price tag I picked it up and noticed it was Chinese made. You can take this for what it's worth meaning that the quality is unknown, but not necessarily bad.
