So I've had this spotter for about a year now. Still really happy with it for my limited use. I have the XW14 lens and the XF zoom. I bring them both with me hunting/scouting/at the range and they seem to work well. The XF zoom is not as impressive as the XW, but it still comes in handy and even at 60x can provide some details to make it worthwhile.

I happened to be at Cabela's a few weeks ago and checked out the Vortex Razor 65mm spotter. I must admit, I liked the zoom lens on it quite a bit. Seemed like it provided a very nice image and had a decently wide view for a zoom.

Am I splitting hairs by contemplating selling the Pentax and both lenses to go with the Razor? In the end, since I couldn't have them both side by side my judgement is off. I really think they are both good, and I'm having a tough time justifying the swap. Maybe I just like shiny new things around Christmas time?

Can anyone help me out? Am I gaining anything by selling the Pentax and both lenses to go with the Razor or is it close enough that I won't notice much, not to mention I'll lose the wide angle XW14, which is a pretty sweet lens. I will say I have the first gen Razor bio and they're ok, but not super happy with them. Seems like I send them for adjustments a little too often for my taste.

Thoughts?

To me, the Vortex Razor is a much better scope optically than the Pentax. The eyepieces on the Pentax are brilliant, but I feel the objective itself is dated now and not quite up there.

Vortex optics are really really good and in the 65mm scope the image is sharp, and clear across the entire range.

The biggest advantage with the Vortex is that you dont have to carry multiple eyepieces. Otherwise the 30x wide angle Vortex eyepiece (23x in the 65mm scope) is tack sharp!!

cheers
Jeelan
