I am thinking of upgrading my binos. I curently own Pentax DCF WP (not the newer WP ll). Would it be worth it for me to upgrade in new binos. I want to stay in the $500 to $700 range. Which binos would be a worthy upgrade, or should I just keep what I have. Are new improvements worth the investment?

I have the DCF WP in the 8x42 configuration and have bought several more expensive supposedly "better" pairs in the past 8 years only to find out that they are tough to improve on even when spending more $.  Mine have become a bit loose in the hinge and the eyecups tend to retreat if I hold them too firmly against my face, but the view through them is still as good or close to as good as several newer pairs that retailed for $700-$875.  I keep them up in ND for when I get back to go deer and pheasant hunting.  I feel these were a real breakthrough for what you got at that price point.

All that being said it looks like right now is a good time to be in the market for some new binoculars.  SWFA has the 8x56 Burris Signature Select binos at a crazy low price if you can handle the bulk.  They also have the new Vortex Talon HD binos which I can't wait to get a look through and they are under your price point.

From my recent experience with the new Theron Wapiti APO-ED binocular I can say that is an upgrade.  You get all the bells and whistles with that binocular.  You get an APO airspaced triplet double ED objective lens, broad spectrum dielectric coatings, HD field flattening glass in the ocular, a nice bright, sharp to the edge view.  That will cost you $389.

The ZEN ED 2 is pretty much the same thing, without HD in the ocular, and with a much wider fov (with some edge distortion as an inevitable result) and has the double hinge.  I have the 7x36 ZEN ED 2 and its 10x43 big brother and am well happy with both of them.  They handily replaced the Vortex Viper.  Next optic I buy will be the Wapiti 8x42 APO-ED, just to put my money where my recommendation is.
