The pentax dcf sp 8X43 and leupold pinnacle 8X42 both are similar in weight, FOV, and Warranty.  How close are they in optical performance?  is the difference great or pretty small?  I will be using them for hunting.  Also how close are these two to the alpen apex 8X42?

The Pinnacles are light, slim, handy, and well built. They are very sharp and clear in the middle of the field of view. However, they are not particulalrly bright and they have a lot of distortions and line bending. The DCF SP is brighter and has far less distortion. It is a more pleasant binocular to look through.

Warranty wise, nobody can beat the Leupold customer service.

look through a pair of minox if you can - they have excellent contrast, and brilliant images.

+1 on the Minox.  I own a pair of the HGs.  Not for everyone due to the relatively narrov FOV at 330 ft. in the 8.5X, but everything else more than made up for it to me.

I own a pair of the Alpen Apex and really like them, however I have also used a pair of the Pinnacles and thought they were probably a little bit clearer, but not much.  The focus was easier to use on the Pinnacles also.  Apex are a great binocular for the price though.
