I am headed to colorado this fall for my first elk hunt.  I have been looking for a decent pair binos that won't break the bank.  I was pretty well set on Nikon Monarchs but last night I was on a local hunting board and found a pair of Pentax DCF SP 10x50 that have been used on a couple of times for the same as new monarchs.  How do these 2 compair?  I see the pentex cost a fair amount more new are they worth it?

The Pentax SP is a better binocular than the Monarch.  But you didn't say what Monarch.  The Pentax is too big to interest me as a glass I will pack in a typical elk hunt.

My ZEN ED retired my Monarchs and replaced my Vipers.  That is what I would use.  If my choice had to be the two in your post, I'd take the Monarch because of the weight.  If the Pentax SP was a 43mm, I'd take it over the Monarch because of the better optics.
