i need help!! i do not understand parralex. i want to buy a good 3x9x40 scope but they are all parralex set to 100 yards. i want to use it on squirrel. i have been told that a scope for this type of shooting (10 to 75 yards) is best done with a scope having a parrelex set at 50 yards. is this true? what happens on short range shots when useing a long range scope? the scopes i am interested in for my new squirrel gun are leupold vx3, nikon monarch or bushnell 4200 but they all have parralex set at 100 yards. please help!!!

I would look at a lower power for those ranges you stated.  a 1-4 would be adequete IMO

Leupold's custom shop will adjust the parallax to what ever you want for a fee. They sell a VX-11 that is set up for shorter ranges for .22  Zeiss has had a 3x9 scope for .22.

You could buy a rimfire scope, which many have the parallax set at 50 yards, or find an adjustable objective scope that goes down to 10 yards or so.  That would take care of any parallax ranges for you hunting squirrels.
