I am trying to mount a Kahles KX 3x9x42 on a Winchester SX3 shotgun. I have mounted a few scopes before and I have a question. I am using Warne QD medium height rings. I am trying to boresight the gun with a laser Sightmark shotgun shell type boresighter. I have run out of elevation adjustment and I'm still below the crosshairs. What is happening? Would I need to mount with lower or higher rings? The medium rings are mounting pretty close to the barrel. Thanks for any suggestions.

Try this, cut a piece of plastic from an empty shot gun shell and place it on the rear base. This is going to solve that problem.I've had this happen with high end scopes, the rings are fine.

Time out. Slug Gun  -  before you start shimming the scope my suggestion is take the gun somewhere that you can shoot it and set up a target at 15 ot 25 yds a large cardboard box works fine.  Once you have made some rough adjustments at that distance go to 100 yds and shoot it and adjust it to Zero it there.  The height of the rings makes little difference in where the scope points.  There are several ways to shim a scope mount. A small piece of an aluminum can can be cut to size and placed between the shotgun reciever and the base and then tightened down.  Burris Signature Zee rings have a plastic insert inside which can be ordered in + 10 or +20 moa to tilt the scope the direction needed.
The problem wiht the laser bore sighter could be due to the distance you are using, At night time you should be able to see it farther.
