hey guys I have a savage axis  308 and i had to get the base extensions to get my vortex viper 3.5x10x50 to barely sit right, my dad leveled the scope out and when he went to bore sight it he ran out of adjustment. any ideas on what I can do to remedy this problem? thanks for any help!

How did you bore-sight it? And has the rifle been shot with this scope yet?

What type of base, base extensions and rings are you using? And if possible a photo would help tremendously in figuring this out.

I don't trust laser bore-sighters... My suggestion would be to pull the bolt, bag the rifle up real good, and sight down the bore. Another way would be to start shooting at 25 yards, and work out to the range where you want you zero.

I am not saying the bore-sighter isn't correct. But the odds are it is off.

I will never use any laser boresighter. There is to much room for error.

I agree with SVT, shoot the rifle, start short, work your way out.
If you confirm that you are maxing out your adjustment, post a picture of your mounts/scope.

I quit using bore-sighting devices of any kind altogether.  I can almost always get on paper and zeroed at the desired zero distance within 5 rounds.  After mounting scope, remove bolt, sight down the bore and adjust reticle so reticle and object in bore center correspond, then shoot at 25 yds.  Align and level crosshairs on the bullseye, then, while keeping rifle steadied, move w/e knobs to put crosshair on bullet hole from first shot.  Verify POI and repeat if necessary.  Move out to 100 yds and fine tune zero (usually 2- 4" high for 200 - 300 yd zero) with a couple shots.  Then, move out to desired zero distance and fine tune.
