I have an older super sniper I got in 1988.  I want to know what is the difference between the older super snipers and the newer ones.  My understanding that the older scopes were make in japan and the newers are not.  If you know details as to the older japanese maker and the new makers Please advice

They have always been made in Japan by the same maker and still are today.  The only thing that has ever changed is the location of the objective lens.  The very first production called for the objective lens to be at the very end of the objective so that the lens could be wiped off quickly when the user was exiting the water.  They learned that it worked like a signal mirror with the lens right on the end so the Navy requested that it be recessed.

Might not be a genuine Super Sniper.  There are a few people selling Hakko MP series scopes and fraudulently passing them off as Super Snipers.  Post a picture of it or send one to me at chris@swfa.com and I will try to identify it for you.

Hello Chris,

I looked in to the hakko website and my scope looks just like the hakko mp.  I even called my friends in Russia who also has it.  He told me that they have it as a hakko.  Let me ask you a question.  As a comsumer don't you think is very important to be up front and informe the customer as to what company makes the scope?  An informed customer is a satisfied customer.

I assume that the reason that SWFA does not give out that information is solely a business decision that somehow gives them a competitive advantage.  There is also probably a non-disclosure agreement between the parties which forbids this.  This is a very common practice in manufacturing circles where worldwide brand labeling has become the norm.  I guarantee that you have products in your house marked by companies like GE, IBM, RCA, etc.  Guess what, many of these products were wholly made by an unnamed third party that made them to specification and then GE slaps a label on them.  There is nothing wrong with this practice and it is basic MBA 101.

In a topic just before this one I had already inquired as to the maker of the Super Sniper. I was just simply curious, I didnt realize that this was sensitive info., However I do respect this policy. I do already own a Super Sniper SS10x42M and am VERY happy with it. My question here is: If you buy a Hakko MP and say a few months down the road you have trouble with it, how hard do you think it will be to get it warranteed? I know for a fact what its like dealing with SWFA on waranty issues. They are the best at taking care of their customers. No red tape and long delays, just good buisiness. So for me I'll stick with them whether they tell me who actually produces what scope or not. In the big picture it dosent really matter who makes it anyway, its still a good scope for the price.
