Hello all!  Hope this morning finds you well.

I am looking at buying a Leupold VX-3L 4.5-14x50 to mount on my .270 WIN.  The scope would have the B&C reticle and I can pick it up for around $750 including shipping.  I am by no means married to the Leupold brand but do like the low mounting profile.

Are there any other 50mm scopes (I know they won't mount as low as the VX-3L) I should be looking at?  I'd like to keep the price under $800 or so.

Thanks for your input!

Bob

What will be the primary purpose of the rig? Hunting?  what type light conditions do you normally hunt in? what ranges do you shot?

Yes, the setup is for hunting...mostly in lower light conditions of early morning and later afternoon/dusk.  Most shots are probably 30-75 yards but last year I took a doe at 315ish on a new lease with HUGE food plots.

I would look at the Trijicon Accupoints.  They are known for their low light performance and clarity.  They do have a limited amount of internal elevation adjustment but at your ranges you should never get close to being limited by that.

Vortex Viper scopes are great too and they are way cheaper than the Leupolds. I don't think you could tell the difference between them when it comes to low light performance.

I don't believe you'll find a 50mm scope that can be mounted as low as the vx3l, if that is your primary concern this is your only choice.

4.5 mag on low end is a little high for 30-75 yard normal shots.  I would probably a little lower on the bottom magnification.
