I just picked up a brand new FN patrol, and wanted a little advice on which optics to choose from.  First of all I'm probably going to be using this rifle to engage targets at 400-800+ meters and would like something with an illuminated mildot or TMR. Since it will be predominantly for the range I don't really have to follow the "keep it simple" philosophy with a fixed power scope, so pretty much anything is game (leupold Mk4s being my first choice at the momment).  Now to make this long post even longer, I would like to add another question or two.. First of all does anyone have any expierence with the FN patrol, I havent had a chance to take mine out yet and extremely curious how it shoots. And finaly, does anyone know how to get the custom turrets made from luepolds custom shop? Aparently there is a ballistics form somewhere, but I was unable to locate it. Thanks!

I don't have direct experience with the FN Patrol Rifle. I do know that your particular rifle is thought of highly. Are you going to roll your own or shoot of the shelf ammo?

As for you scope selection the Mk4s are nice. Have you thought of checking into the Night Force Scopes? The reticles, power, adjustment and illumination requirements are all there in this scope line.

zrated,
I also have a FNH-PBR with a 24 inch barrel.  If you have not noticed by now, the trigger is HEAVY!  In mine, when taking a slow controled squeez, I can feel alittle bit of creep just before it releases the firing pin.  Have not found a trust worthy gunsmith in my area to get it worked on.  Was going to send a Email to FNHUSA to ask if the Winchester Model 70 aftermarket triggers will work on the PBR (the PBR is a Winchester Model 70 Action), but the new FNHUSA web site is STILL under construction.  I have called them once trying to get extra mags.  While very helpful, they are not premitted to sell directly to the public.  Currently I cannot truly comment on accuracy.  Been waiting for the new Burris XTR scopes to top the PBR with.  Well 2 months later, I got tired waiting for the XTR to come in, so I went with an XOTIC (you can find my comments about the XOTIC on other posts on this web forum).  The 2nd scope is on its way as we speak.  In the mean time I slapped a Sightron S1 I got used at a garage sale.  First 2 shots were almost on top of each other.  From there on, all the following shots did not even hit the target.  Now I see why the scope was only $40.  Annoyed, but persistant, I fiddled with the knobs a bit and was hitting paper again, but point of impact seemed to move with each shot.  Shooting from the off hand using a Tactical Intervention sling I was able to make a 2 liter pop bottle dance as fast as I could acquire target, squeez the trigger, cycle the action for 4 out of 5 shots.  Lot of fun!  Once I have the scope, and the time, I am planing on doing a write up of the rifle, scope, sling, ammo (to include Lapua, Hornady, Federal, Winchester, PMC and Black Hills) to post.
Good shooting!

SPGolf,

I was actually planning on calling today to see what I could do about the trigger, I'm also going to see if I can hunt down a good gunsmith in my area (Maryland).  I too want to buy some extra mags, I'm running by the gun store later today to check out a Leupold Mk.4 the owner ordered to I could check it out, so I will ask if he can get them from one of his distibutors.  Hopefully FN will have there site up shortly, but for now I guess I will just keep posting on the forums to figure everything out.

nddah,

I looked into the NightForce scopes and they are now my second choice if the leupold doesnt work out.  Thanks for the advice!

Zrated,
You may get more luck with your local store then I did (not much faith and confidence in my local gun store).  If not, Totally Awsome Guns out in UT have them in stock for $35 a piece.
I dont have the number with me, but Rusty at FNHUSA is a good to go guy.

Good shooting!

Thanks again SP, I just picked up my Leupold, and I couldnt be happier.. Unfortunately the rings for it were a little too small so I'm going to have new ones. I'll check out Totally Awesome guns as well.
