Hi,
Here in Europe we have quite a large market of old classic Euro scopes (Zeiss, Swarovski, Kahles, S&B, Docter...). I was wondering how these scopes compare to modern ones? For example, you can get a used Swarovski Habicht 2,2-9x42 Nova for $550 (just one that caught my eye). What would be a modern equivalent? Thanks

I´m using quite a lot of old Euro scopes (as I come from Europe).
Especially at night time they´re hard to beat - good glass, often with sufficient coarse reticles.
There´s not many scopes that will outperform an old german/austrian 8x56 when the darkness sets in.

Yes, a lot of people around here would recommend me old 8x56 scopes for low light - basically I'm interested in practical signs of advance in optics.
A friend of mine has an old Swarovski 6x42 scope on his Mauser rifle. It's a neat scope and although it's almost entirely lost its original paint it is optically very nice. I did however notice a strange yellowy tone to the image. Still neat though.

The yellow tone on some scopes comes with age, I wish I could age as gracefully as an old scope, without turning yellow that is....
A scope in reasonable nick from e.g. Kahles, Zeiss could be sent to service. It´s not free but the scope will be as new.
My oldest scope is a Hensoldt Diatal 4x32, it´s still crisp and clear and usable.
