I have purchased a 7mm Rem Mag for elk hunting.  I am looking at several differant brands of scopes and would like input from all i can on some.  I have used Nikon, sightron, and Leupold but have been told that the Weaver brand has came long strides.  What are the thoughts on these optics binoculars and scopes. Clarity power and recticles are all important.  Thanks for all the help

The Ziess 3-9x40 is only 400 bucks. Heck of a deal. Ziess makes some excellent scopes. Vortex has earned  good rep also.

What exactly is your price range?

i am looking in the price range of 400-800.  The nikon monarch with the BDC recticle was a choice that considered, but i think after reading reveiws and some columns the weaver grand slam may be a better scope for the money.  The 3x9 doesnt give me the magnification that i think I am looking for, but 400 is a great deal does it have a recticle like the bdc

Id jump on the Zeiss Conquest 3-9X40 z plex reticle as well. If you have to have more power you can get the 4.5-14X50, its a great scope too but you will pay, not just in price, but also weight and bulk.

Alot of scopes have all kinds of fancy reticles. If you learn how to use gun and ammo with a mildot scope. Mildots make great "BDC" scopes

In refrence to only the question about the Weaver Grand Slam, I have two of them and they have been great scopes. Have always held zero when knocked over / banged around. The glass IMO is very good.  I have one mounted on a 270WSM and one on a 325WSM.

I also had two Weaver G/S scopes one in 4.5-14x40 and one in the hard to find 4.75x32.  While they were state of the art when they first came out, I believe the competition has surpassed them.  They first came out to compete with the VXIII, which has been revised twice since then.

Lots of choices to look at ..6500 series Bushnell Elite ( raingurard is great ) ..one inch 4200 Bushnell elite ( Rainguard and value here) .. Zeiss Conquest are exellent .. Sightron's Big Sky works ... VX 3 's will work just fine ... but personally I'd skip the Monarchs for CS reasons...

If your price range is $400 - $800 and you are interested in Weaver scopes, then you should check out their new Super Slam scopes.  It's their top of the line scope with 5x magnification.  The Grand Slam is a step down from the new Super Slam.  I am thinking about pulling the trigger on a Super Slam 2-10x42mm for my 300 Wby Mag.

It comes in standard duplex reticle:
http://swfa.com/Weaver-2-10x42-Super-Slam-Rifle-Scope-P40556.aspx

or a BDC style reticle (EBX Glass Etched):
http://swfa.com/Weaver-2-10x42-Super-Slam-Rifle-Scope-P40558.aspx

Here's a review I found during my scope research:
http://www.realguns.com/Commentary/comar187.htm

For what it's worth, if you buy a Super Slam or Grand Slam scope this year you get a free gear bag (which they claim is a $125 value, although it's probably more like a $25 value - but hey, it's something).

If you're looking for more than 3-9 mag, then the Weaver Super Slam is available in 2-10 and 3-15 at pretty attractive price points with a bdc style reticle.
