I would stick with the Sako or the FN, just my personal bias.  The FN was recently adopted as the new sniper rifle for the FBIs HRT and SWAT teams.  From what I understand the FN is probably the most rugged rifle to come off of an assembly line.  The Sako is just plain sweet.  Whatever you get, I would go with the .308.  It is a more versatile hunting/match round and I would not want to shoot a lot of 338LM rounds at a match.

cool thanks for your help ranburr maybe i misread or maye its the same gun but isn't hs precision touting that they have the fbi contract? also ranburr u seem to know alot about alot of things maybe u can help me choose a scope... as well i wass thinking zeiss, S&B, leupoldor maybe a nightforce or us opticsi understand that it would be best to get a scope with a reticle in the 1st plane would i be correct in assuming this? also variable is only affected by that choice correct? if u were going to mount a scope on the trb would u put a variable or fixed... thanks ranburr

Manuel, if you want to go all out, the Tango 51 in 308 is considered the best of the best in the tactical ops field. www.tacticaloperations.com   5 shots 1/4 inch groups or less@ 100yrds with Gold Medal ammo!!!! Read the article in SWAT magazine on the Tango51.

Heh Manuel,
the TRG 22 in .308 is an awsome rifle.
I have had the pleasure of shooting one with a silencer, bipod and a Leupold scope.
I would definately NOT recomend this as a hunting rifle....it's way too heavy.
Other than that......yes!!....go for it it's a mean machine!!!

Can't go wrong with either.  Leupold offers a few more models and variations.  Were you thinking about going with a 1/4 or 1 moa adjustment scope?

chris if u could refer to my post in tactical scopes basicall i want 2 things... and yes i know they dont coincide basically. i would like the ability to perform anything a LE marksman would be tasked with extremely precise shooting <200m and also anything a military sniper would be tasked with 300m-800m. im not saying i can do any of that but i would like to have these abilities none the less..  i know the 1/4 or 1moa click issue is gonna be a factor i would like to take the .308 out to 1000m for sh*ts and giggles from time to time.... for more info is u could please go to the tactical scope forum nad look at the thread entitled swfa guys and ranburr please help

A lot of the guys on http://www.SnipersHide.com have rifles built by http://www.gaprecision.net/ , and everyone raves about the quality of the work.  His customized Rem. 700's are in your price range.  Go by his site and look around, and then go to Snipershide and do a search on GA Precision and George.  You should be able to find some targets shot with his rifles- they're incredible.
