Hey all, I'm in the market for a tactical precision scope for my Savage Model 10 BAS, 26" barrel, .308.  Since it is .308, I don't plan to shoot it much past 1000 meters, so I'm looking at mid range variables like 3 to 5 low end and 12 to 20 high end range.  Ideally, I want a variable with a FFP lighted mrad reticle, .1 mrad adjustments, and made in the US would be nice.  I currenlty own:

SS 3x9 on my POF AR10
SS 10X HD on the way for my Savage Model 10 with 20" barrel
Nightforce 5.5-22s on both my .50 BMGs
Khales 10x with BDC turret on my tactical SSG 69
Zeiss 6x on my hunting SSG 69

The Model 10 BAS is my longest barrel .308, and it will be my Long Range .308, so I'd like to have greater than 10x for 1000yd+ shooting, but I want flexibitly offered by low power, so I'm definitely looking for a variable for this rifle.

Money is not a huge barrier, I only want to buy this scope once, so I am looking to spend up to $2500 if I can see the value, but I'm inherently frugal and I don't want to buy an overpriced name.

OK, so after some poking around I'm looking at a scope I've really never heard of before, the Vortex Razor HD 5-20, it has all the stuff I want, lighted FFP mrad reticle, large adjustment range, .1 mrad clicks, but I've never looked through one, and this will by my first scope with a tube larger than 30mm.  I expect at $1999 it must have decent optics, but how does it compare to the others.

Please provide insight, opinions, competing scopes that meet the same desires...

You might also consider the Premier 3-15 or 5-25 (34mm tubes) or the NF 3.5-15 F1 (30mm tube). I can say first-hand that the Premier 3-15 is a great scope. I'm just mentioning the other two based on specs. The Vortex Razor is not one I've seen but it has generally gotten good mentions and Vortex is a great company that will take care of you no matter what. One thing that is kind of puzzling is why they went with a 35 mm tube when S&B, Hensoldt and Premier are all 34mm. It's easier to find rings for that size.

While I don't see how they could be as nice, given the price, you might wait to hear feedback on the Vortex PSTs. For many shooters they will probably be great scopes. They're also under a grand and 30mm. I may seriously get rid of my NF for the 4-16 FFP version.

Can anyone else weigh in on the Vortex HD?

i've loooked through one. The reticle at max magnification seemed thick to me. Since it's FFP they had to make reticle big enought to see at low power. But the down side is at maximum magnification it seems thick.

I looked at one at SWFA and it is an impressive looking scope with the best warranty written all of which is a moot point in the middle of a sh*tstorm, still I am a bit concerned by some things I read at snipers hide. I would go Heinsoldt
This scope is the best bar none and no matter what rifle you place it on in the future you will never regret having this scope.   The other option that I personally like which others may or may not is the Leupold Tactical scopes which should be a good match for your rifle.

If money is no object, consider the Hensoldt. But I think the scope that will be hardest to beat in the high-end tactical market will be the Schmidt & Bender 3-20:

6.5 is to high on the low end for a good field of view. BTW, I think Vortex has been highly responsive regarding any issues with their scopes. One of their engineers even posted a picture showing the inner workings of their turrets. I've never seen anyone in this industry be that forthcoming:
