I'm looking to put a 6X24 on my .223 TC Encore heavy barrel.  I want a scope with an AO that will focus down close so I can use it on my 10-22 rimfires if I ever want to.  I looked at a Tasco Varmint 6X24 Mil-Dot.  But everybody tells me to spend more money for better quality.  I think I could go as high as $400.00.  I like the look of the Weaver V Series, but can't find specs on how far down their AO will go.  I've seen a lot of favorable comments on the Bushnell Elite series, but call me crazy; I think I would like something that's not quite so long.  Most of the others I'm looking at are right at 14".  Anyone had any experience with Sightron?  They are being offered at 379.00 at Wholesale Hunter and claim to focus down to 10 yards on their 6X24 Mil-Dot.  They also claim a lifetime warranty.  But I've never heard of them.  How far can you go wrong with scopes in the 350.00-400.00 range?  All pretty decent?  Some much better than others?  Just wondering what your experience has been.  Thanks!

I have three scopes in that power range, one the tasco, one ziess, one nikon. Of the three the ziess is best, but it is a 6.5 to 20 x 50mm, and its quite a bit of money. The tasco sounds like the one you are lookin at. The nikon is allmost on the same level as the ziess and it sells in the $400 range. I would lean to the upper end of what you are willing to spend. You will be more pleased in the long run. The optics in the tasco are not very good if you want to do any dawn, dusk hunting. Not to mention any calling at night, if that is leagel in your area. I have a 32 power elite 4200 on my bench gun, it has very clear glass as well. I have been told that the glass in the 4200 series is the same as the monarch on the nikon's. Dont know if that is fact. They do both say the same thing about 95% light transmission. Both are great buys. I would stay with the monarch or the 4200 series, as appose to the 3200 or the buck master. Nikon only offers up to 20 power, but you can put the 20 power nikon up against the 24 power tasco and the difference in clarity makes the nikkon appear to have the same power. Just my 2 cents but I hope it helps you out. Good luck.

6-24's that focus close and are not two feet long????  You are right on track with the Weaver V-24, it is the shortest 6-24 I know of and focuses down to 50 feet.  It has finger adjustable windage and elevation too.  Can't be beat for what you want.
