I am wanting to get my 8 year old boy a scope for his 10/22 and am interested in some opinions.  I want to get him some decent quality and would have bought the new SS 1-4 but it's backordered till April.  I've also looked at

Vortex 1-4 Crossfire
Vortex PST 1-4  with SSALT mount
Leupold 1.5-4X20 Mark AR
Leupold 1-4x20 VX2

Or should I just put on a variable power 3x9?

Someday I'm sure we will pull this off and put it on an AR-15 we are building him one now.

Opinions please.

Howdy Big Dog,
Several OT members have the nice little Weaver rimfire 2-7, or the 3-9 w/ AO. US companies Sightron, Leupold, Kruger and Vortex, as well as others, also offer nice rimfire (parallax adjusted to 50 yds) scopes in those, and even higher power ranges at different price points. 1X would be good for getting on a running rabbit, while rimfires can make good use of higher magnification.

If you are going to use the scope later for an AR, it looks like you've selected some good ones.

I mounted a 3-9x40 on my 10-22 this last summer, and it

is just too big for the rifle. IMHO.  It will be coming off, when I get

something smaller.  If you are going to pull it later, I would not

bother in the first place.

I wonder how many put high dollar scopes on the likes of 22(a 10/22 or something similar-non competition)?

I like the Weaver Classic Rimfire scopes pretty well, and think they are a good value for the money.

You have some capped turret and target/tactical exposed knob scopes listed.

Are you planning to dial in long distance drop compensation or just plan to use it for relatively short range shots typical of rimfire shooting?

Concur! The 2-7x, (for the money), is a good choice.

I have an old 2.5-7 X 32 Nikon Monarch on my old Kimber. I don't remember if they made rimfire scopes then or not.

Well now that I think about it there were 3/4" Weavers but I don't think my Kimber would have liked that.

Hey joshmb1999 (Newie Here)
I new to all this rimfire scope stuff. To prove it I went out and bought a BARSKA RED DOT MANUAL SCOPE and when I bought my new 10/22
Ruger TakeDown to the range. I couldn't see the RED DOT it was too
bright here I Nevada.

Now with just a little reading and trying to get help from guys like you. What do you think of: NIKON3-9X40 RimFire Scope ?

I'l be targeting @ the the most a 100 yds.

THANKS GUY
