Field of view:
123 m at 1000 m 7,0°
7 degrees x 52.5 feet ( 1 degree) = 367.5 feet
For a true field of view that isn't bad for a 7x or 8x bin however, I mentioned "apparent field of view" which for a 7x is approximately 49 degrees (7 degrees x 7X magnification). 49 degrees is very narrow for a 7x and fairly narrow for apparent field of view in general. Take a look at many of the popular 8x42 and 10x42 mid-priced roof prisms on the market. The 8x exhibits a 330 foot field of view which translates into 6.3 degrees and an apparent field of view of 50.4 degrees. The 10x models exhibit a 315 foot field of view which translates into 6 degrees and an apparent field of view of 60 degrees.
Now it may sound like I am negative towards this particular model and configuration. I hope it doesn't because I really am not. I was simply pointing out a characteristic that I did not think they quite measured up to the competition with. They sacrifice apparent field of view somewhat for better edge sharpness. A simple tradeoff and something that just about every bin does in one way or another. I still think the image quality is above average and would be really interested in getting my hands on a pair of the HGs.
