Sorry guys but am new to this site. I have been running amuck on the web trying to find info on the older SS 10 X 42 M's. My manuel says the dots are 0.18 mils. Not being very math gifted, my question is how to sub divide the 0.18 into meaningful info for MOA's and Mils?
Is it as simple as dividing by 1/2, 1/4's 1/8 and so on. I am assuming all else is the same as 0.2 dots and the distances between the SS dots fractionalize similarly.
If there is a significant a difference when calculating for long distance shooting, i.e. > 500 yds out to 1200 using 0.18 vs 0.20 Army dots? Hope I am asking this correctly. Thanks, Doug

The only difference is if you can hold .02 mil...I can't. Or having a rifle capable of noticing .02 mil.

I'd like to see your instructions.  There were some instructions many moons ago that had errors.

BillyBurl2 and Chris, thanks for your responses. Wish they had been in more depth to my question.

However, maybe no one really knows how much difference it would make beyond 500 y/m's. All other factors per info can be broken down from 1 mil and fractionalized into thenths. If you've not seen this site it's worth looking at (8541tactical.com), check it out.

Chris, i'd be happy to make a copy and send it to you. How do I go about contacting you to do so?

I have two of the older SS one as noted is the 10x42-M the other is the 16 X with rear paralax focus. Like them both.
Used to shoot out to 1100+yds at a 16" gong. Pretty awsome to hear it ring!

FYI

For those who may still be reading this post and especially those who are new to understanding mil dots, the following is important.
After a discussion with Chris with SWFA, he informed me that the early SS manuals contained incorrect information about all the SS scope(s). SWFA attempted to get the corrections  amended but this attempt never came to fruition. Chris informs me the mil dots are 0.20 or 0.22 and not 0.18 as printed in the old Tasco SS manuals; and it is appropriate to use 0.20 for the basis of making any mathamatical extropolations for long distance shooting.

Good shooting!

Doug
