I have inherited a pair of Jena Delactis 8*40 Binoculars. The prisms and lenses need removing and cleaning. I can remove the front lenses and access the front prisms. I cannot work out how to remove the eyepieces to access the rear prisms. I do not want to use excess force in case I damage them. Anyone know how to remove the eyepieces? Do they simply unscrew?

This is not a job for a beginner!
Once the lenses & prisms are removed and cleaned everything must go back together in the correct order.
More than likely the binocular will then need to be collimated to avoid double images.
Collimation is accomplished by the use of a laser collimator.
Some binoculars are adjusted via excentric rings on the front objective lenses.

Here's a link for further assistance.

Thanks for the advice Birdwatcher. As you can see from the picture the bins are certainly not worth the cost of a professional clean, I would be better spending the money on a new pair. The front lenses and prisms are fixed with no method of adjustment.

For anyone else coming across this thread in the future: I have received the informnation I need to remove the oculars from another forum. They simply screw off right handed with firm force. Warming to 50 degees C was also suggested to help loosen old grease.

Bill Cook & Cory Suddarth are both professional optical repair men; listen to their advice and you will do well.
