Hi,
I have a few questions for the guys who know the most about optics.
I recently purchased a .223 Rem. Savage 110FP from the estate of an old Game Warden who had quite a few rifles and liked to shoot. It had a Leupold 12X Fixed Power scope on it. It has target turrets. The serial number is V304403. It has a PREMIER RETICLE stamp on it. It is an extremely fine Mil Dot system. It is so fine that right now, it is not really usable to me. I'm having cataract surgery next week, and hopefully that will get beter. If it doesn't, I'll sell or trtade it for something that works better for me. I was told that Louie called this one of his "tack drivers".
I've tried to find out more about this scope, including sending a message to Leupold. I didn't get an answer. That's when I remembered the help that I got here a long time ago with some optics questions. I really would like to find a users manual for this scope. I'm not even sure what the adjustment in the turrets is. It has additional scales on the turrets that go from 0,1,2,etc, as you turn them.
Now the questions! Was this scope made in the 1989 era? I've read where the Premier Reticle was a custom reticle. Did they install them on the Leupold scope, or did Leupold buy and install them on request? The scope seems to be excellent from appearances. I'm anxious to shoot it and see how it does. A friend of mine has a buyer for the scope if I want to sell it. He told him what I had gotten, and he was interested right away. I don't have a clue as to what it is worth, or what it sold for new. I hate so sell anything like this that I do not have to any more. Thanks, Pres!
Any help that I get from you pros will really be appreciated. Thanks,
Dan.

Your Leupold 12X was indeed from that era....matter of fact, they are still made today. Many people, myself included, are of the opinion that it's one of the best all around varmint scopes ever made.

Premier Reticle was owned by Dick Thomas. Dick passed away a few years ago and the business is being run by his son, Chris. Premier had a long time 'working relationship' with Leupold. You could buy a Leupold directly from Premier with one of their custom reticles instaled. Or, you could send a Leupold to Premier and they would fit it with one of their reticles. Either way, Leupold would honor the warranty as long as the work was done by Premier. I bought several Leupolds directly from Premier with custom reticles....and had them change reticles on several others.

With Dick's passing, this relationship changed.

    Hope this helps.   -Al

Not sure what Premier charges to change the reticle but it sounds like a nice scope and at a more reasonable finished product cost than the 10x Mark 4 mil dot military version.  If the reticle is too fine for  you to use SWFA will make you a trade value offer  by e-mail but it can take a couple of days.   If you can sell it outright that may be the best route.

Al, or anyone else that may knows, do you have any idea where I could get my hands on an owner or users manual for this reticle? Even if I can get it on computer and download it, I'd be very happy.

If you contact Premier in VA, over the phone or via email, they MIGHT be kind enough to help you with your reticle question. But I can't say for sure.

Badger send it to leupold they will change it for you for about 70 bucks. Have them put a one Min dot in it . You will be able to see it in the dark

They will NOT work on modified scopes - I know this   !

That leupold is worth much more just the way it is now.

Yeah, i called them about uninstalling a Premier reticle and they said no go.  I think you are stuck with that reticle.
I had Premier work on several scopes for me and the way it usually went was I worked up a load I was happy with then sent the scope along with the ballistic info to Premier, told them where I wanted the extra lines or dots to be, such as crosshairs on at 200 first mark at 300 next mark at 400, etc., and they did their magic.  Trouble with them is they are caliber specific and somewhat load specific.  But if you happen to have another rifle with ballistics real close to the original it will still work.
You have a good one there
