Hi redneck, it does have a fast focus ring built in to the Optimate so perhaps it is a Uk badged SS.never seen one of them over here.

Always thought the supers were Tasco scopes? in which case this is'nt.

They do a 10x as well, possibly only made for the brit market.

well, tasco has never made a scope, they just basically sub contracted there scopes out to diff manufaturers, and put their name on them. the SS is one of the best tactical scopes there is if you ask me, and tasco does not deserve to put its name on it, as far as im concerned, its now the SWFA Super Sniper. and im not reffering to the fast focus, but instead on the forward part of the rear eyepiece, where you adjust for the different yardages, to correct for parralax.

How much did that scope cost you? Did you purchase it off the web?

NO MAYBE ABOUT IT!

There are several companies in Europe/PAC-Rim who sell them. Good job too as the SS cant be EASILY shipped from the US. SS is cheaper though - lucky you!

HI - Yup that sounds about right for the UK price. Think they're still about the same.

Right now the movement of MIL-grade optics is a bit of a swine. I'm told if any US official body uses the item - no export from US.

From the UK ANY "RIFLESCOPE" officially now requires an Export permit - I'm working on getting said document but it's a long process - I'm in the UK later this month to (I hope) resolve the issue.

Here therefore just about EVERYBODY SERIOUS uses German optics. I'm even looking at commisioning stuff in Russia!.

Russians have the capability of making some nice optics, but quality control is touch and go.  If you personally know someone at the factory they can make sure that your scope had some "personal attention". Otherwise, I'd be very careful with russian optics.  I have had a few Russian scopes.  Some are good, and some are crap.

cory,

Thats what I was thinking.  The extended mag release lever is nothing I ever seen before.  I thought maybe it was a factory unit with a custom lever installed.

I have a HSP kit, they do not have a bridge from the mag well to the trigger guard.

Ilya - Thanks for that insight. I was told more or less the same by a Russian friend in Scotland who deals in NV kit.

I received some factory samples and have sent a LIST of improvements. I have a friend who is looking after the Russian end for me.

Which factory are you dealing with? Also, what kind of a scope are you looking for?  Just curious. I do not have connections with any optics makers in Russia (or anywhere really).

Ilya - I have been talking to a couple - VOMZ and ZOMZ. Basically I'm after 1st FP High(ish) Mag sights with telemetric reticles (Mildot/Dragunov etc). NOT FOR AK's etc which narrows the field down a bit in Russia (mounts!).

The samples I've seen have good (No not BRILLIANT - but for the price what can you expect!) optics - Crisper than Hakko MP I've seen or have certainly, but not quite Leupold - AND A LONG WAY FROM S&B.

They have older (green or brown tint) lens coatings and oddly these seem to operate BETTER here in Spain than newer "bright" coating systems - here we SUFFER (I do anyway) from excessive reflected light.

Some have (shall we say) an idiosyncratic reticle adjustment that more or less requires preadjustment in the mounting system and one has some edge distorsion (though we've been fiddling with the Parallax and this is probaly the cause). I've indicated stuff that NEEDS to change and some has already been done. The aestetics are (well) agricultural too.

But it's a LONG road I think.

Hi there Guys the rifle was a standard Remy VS stock which has been machined out to take a detachable 20 rnd M14 magazine the work was done by Peter Sarrony @ ARMALON UK. so I would think the mag release is a custom job. Check it out @ http://www.armalon.com/pr.shtml

He can also converts HS Presicions,Accurracy Int,& McMillan stocks to this system also does various conversion work to  Lee Enfield's from .303 to 9mm/ 38super/ 45acp look realy nice rifles. He's an exceptional gunsmith and a nice bloke, always ready to talk to you.
