Does anyone have a lead on where/how I could find an old scope called a
command post? It was made by Bushnell some 30 years ago and had a
vertical post you could bring up in poor light.
Bushnell reintroduced a fancy variable power model a few years back
but that is not my need, which is for a old fixed 4 power version.

Mine was stolen by the customs authorities in Ethiopia 30 years ago
and I have been looking for a replacement off and on since.

It also had see through CLIP ON mounts made by Weaver, which I have
also never seen since. I know they offend many highly skilled and able
riflemen but they worked quite well for a low ability hunter like me.
Any ideas on either please?

I see the old command post Bushnells on eBay quite alot...at least once a week.  Most of the ones I see are variables but once in a while I see straight 4X command posts.  I would look there first and see what comes up.  Wink      --Ed

Thanks, I have looked there  but since I never saw one obviously not often enough.
To be fair I was more frequently looking for the weaver clip on see thru mounts but would usually do a follow up search for the command post when I did not find the mounts. Do you have any experiencee with using them? Am no optics engineer but have wondered if the combo of command post and variable did not create problems.

I have never had one.  I have seen them on old guns at the used rack at gun stores and have flipped the post up and down just to play with it.  Some people claim that the post gets slightly off-center eventually and doesn't quite stand precisely straight up and down.  I don't know.

On eBay I would narrow your search to looking at "Bushnell Banner Scopes" ( then you'll get only the items that were labeled like that instead of having to search through the entire universe of Bushnell's recent products.  You will, naturally, get all the recent Banner scopes. too....but you won't have 50 million 3200s and 4200s to wade through....)

Also--"Bushnell Scopechief scopes"  " Post Scopes"  sometimes you find stuff by asking for "Japan scopes"   "Old scopes"  " vintage scopes"   etc.   People label things weird sometimes.

I just picked up an old S&W Model C (HVA 1640 action) mounted with a Bushnell Scopechief lV 3-9x38 w/Command Post on it. The scope was made in Japan. Ed's right about the post not being centered although this one isn't to bad. The right side of the post sits against the lower vertical hair with no space in between them but it hasn't failed to pop up. It's a pretty clear scope with not to bad eye relief and except for few cosmetic flaws it really isn't in bad shape. You can feel a few "bumps" from 5x to 7x as you turn the power ring. Anyways,if anyones interested in it let me know.

Thanks for the advice. I really would prefer a fixed power but how much would you need to let go of it?   Also what kind of mounts does it have please?
