i just saw my neighbor who musta been on something bc his pupils were huge. then i remembered that my friends brother takes medicine for a.d.d. and his pupils are always huge. its a side effect. hes not high, hes not "drugged up" hes just a hyper guy and the medicine really helped him at work. hes also a good hunter, great sense of direction and is great at tracking game.

but when he takes his add mecidine, like isaid, his pupils get huge. so if he is hunting at night, and he took his add medicine, is it possible for his pupils to dialate to more than 7mm? or is 7mm the max a pupil can diolate at.

(please dont turn this into a discussion about rx medicine and how psychologists hand it out and kids really arent in need of medicine etc etc)

I'm no optometrist but I would say your eyes are going to dilate as much as they can in low or no light.  Taking something isn't going to make them go bigger than they are capable of but it will make them go bigger in lighting that is too bright for a normal reaction.  There are articles out there that tell you how you can somewhat control this through emotions, etc.  As far as dilating them with drugs, I suppose you might pick up some advantage at dusk but here's another thought; focusing on distant objects has a tendency to make your eyes dilate as well.  I think I would be leery of doing anything that isn't normal to my body's natural response.  I know too many welders that have looked at lights too bright and have damaged their eyes - PERMANENTLY.  If your eyes are dilated with drugs they aren't going to reduce to protect your retinas either.  I never assume people get the obvious anymore...

im not gonna take anything to make my pupils bigger. i was just curious bc

btw- im going to get my 1/2" 70 and below welding certification so i know all about bright lens.

i was just considering his position and wondering if infact he would be able to see some brighter picture with a bigger obj lens that other people dont.

guess not.

now i need something else to be excited about (im snowed in and bored)

The larger your pupil gets the worse the image gets.  So expanding beyond say 7mm would not allow him to see better anyway.   He may get more light to his eye, but he would not have as clear of an image.

Many of the ADD drugs work well for 3-4 years then the side effects kick in. The worst being Brain Swelling. What you saw could be results of Brain Swelling instead of Dilation. Parkinson's is being linked to the long term treatments with some of the stimulants being used also. Diet and coping skills provide the best results over time. with out retarding the creativity side of the ADD. I would strongly recommend not taking the meds until last resort.

7mm is not a hard number.  It is typical maximum dilation for a healthy human, but some people have pupils that can dilate to significantly larger size or significantly smaller.

Maybe he just had his eyes dilated...or he's coking meth?  I can't see squat when I'm dilated...scope or not.

Phenylethelamines (speed, norepi, epi) , are central nervous system stimulants, all cns drugs are mydriatic, (cause pupil dilation), some other drugs not in this family will cause pupil enlarging. Clear eyes, some Visines etc. are mydriatic because they contain tetrahydrozoline. Ritalin is in the speed family as are most ADD drugs (but not all). While somewhat dose dependant it also depends on the persons and built up tolerance.
