Some of you have to be fisherman. You read and hear a lot about getting into the "Bluewater". I shot this pic in Freeport yesterday. The change in water color obviously is not gradual. Its definitive and it moves with tide, current and wind.
Anyway, I thought this might be interesting if you've never seen it. My middle Grandson and I went out around fifteen miles which is my limit. My boat is a 22 ft center console so thats far enough. We hit the blue water at around twelve miles and fished some rocks. Tons of Red Snapper, none of them keepers though - we weren't deep enough. Got broken off by kingfish a couple of times and caught one shark. All in all, not a great trip.

You could see the intercoastal bridge, barely.

Cool pic, Tejas! I've seen that blue water boundary several times while out fishing on charter boats over the years...in fact, mostly off Freeport.

I have to disagree with one thing you said, though. Any day you're out fishing (or hunting, or shooting, or doing many other outdoor recreational activities) instead of at work is a "great trip" by my definition, regardless of the success of your pursuit!

Agreed, just the reduction in stress makes it worthwhile!

After seven miles you can't see land anymore....and, at sea level, Freeport, Texas is just a dirty dustiness on the horizon....it ain't like there's any mountains around!

True, but you can see structures.  My family has a beach house in East Sandwich, MA (Cape Cod).  On a clear day, you could spot the Provincetown tower which appears to be just under 20 miles away.  The tower/Pilgrim monument is 252 feet tall.
