HI

I have a question about nightforce scope this one being the 1x4,24.I am looking at this scope or an Acog for the XCR,which I will buy in the fall if it is ready then?they say it will be out about fall 09 ?anyway the XCR would be in 308 and I need a scope for CQB and out to 400-500 yards if ever needed. The truth is I will be shooting out to 200 yards most the time. The big question I have with the NXS will I be able to see the reticle at night with a light and forarm set-up. I have a aimpoint and it is great at night and quick,I was hoping the NXS set at 1 would be as good. Anyone here who has used one I would like to hear your thoughts on this, and one more thing with CQB fc-2 reticle can it hit well at say 300-500 yards if needed,Thanks,Kev

both the nxs, and acog are good units, but this one is better than all of them and the price is a steal--

A few options:

1.  Since you are willing to wait a bit, Trijicon is coming out with a new version of their great TR21.  It will have more eye relief, a 30mm tube, and will have the post reticules (tritium illuminated.)  I need a rifle to do the same thing you need.  It currently wears a Millett DMS (which I would not recommend) and I have been looking for the perfect fit.  USO SN4 is never a bad choice, but it does not have enough eye releif for me (mounting on a Larue 1.5 over a SA SOCOM.

The Nightforce scope is great, the USO is great, the Trijicon TR21 is great, the newer Trijicon, for my purposes and yours - if you need a little more eye relief - might just be perfect.

The reticle in the scope that I am selling (in Dale's link above) is JPJ1.

Here is the picture from USO website:

What this picture does not show is that when zoomed out to 1x there is also a large circle surrounding the rest of the reticle, which makes aiming pretty fast.

At 4x, that circle moves outside the field of view, so that all you see is the finer part of the reticle as in the picture above.

I tend to think that CQB guns and 400 yd plus guns are different beasts for the most part.  When I'm out that far I'm thinking a bolt action gun or a GAP AR-10.  When you are far enough away accuracy is far more important than high capacity under most circumstances.   An  M-14 / M1a would qualify for both but  even those are weighted toward one end or the other as a SOCOM would be better for entry work and a M21 or M24 would be better at distance while the run of the mill standard rifle is likely a 2moa gun but highly reliable and useable without optics from 10 to over 600 yds. For a 0 to 300 yd optic I really like a 1.5x Trijicon TA442.  The SN4s that Koshkin has would be a fine choice if you must make one gun do both and the .308 is the right choice to do it.
