Wouter, this brings up something I've often wondered.  Everytime I see video footage of hunting in Africa, the vast majority of the hunters are wearing solid khaki, brown, or olive colored clothing.  I very seldom see anyone wearing camo when hunting in Africa.  Why isn't camo more popular there?

cause the grass is always dead, so its brown, green would stick out like a sore thumb, unless you live around wouter's castle

There are camo patterns to match any terrain and foliage, be it brown, green, whatever.

I am not sure that I would want to wear camo in some of the areas of Arica where interaction with military/militia might be found!

Rifledude,  one reason that camo is not popular in Africa, is that camouflage clothing was banned in most of the African countries for decades.  It may be allowed now-- but it was never available, or even essential, for hunting over there.  Years ago it was illegal to even OWN any.              --Ed

Good Show Ed. In most of the world camo means military so if you dont want to be mistaken for an enemy combatant you wear the brightest most tourist looking colors you can find, but I think Ed nailed it.

I think you nailed it there, Ed.
I certainly grew up and hunted using only denim and or khaki. Khaki has also allways been the clothes of the Voortrekkers or early pioneers. So the city guys would also don khaki when visiting their farming community.
I think at the moment a lot of people shun the camo as it appears too "high tech" . They end up as the butt end of camp jokes etc. So it still remains as Ed said, allthough camo is freely available today.  We never grew up with it as part of our hunting heritage.
It is changing, and even I now use camo when hunting!

Makes sense.  I think I heard something about camo being illegal in parts of Africa, but I didn't know if that was true or just b.s. spread by the khaki clothing manufacturers.Wink

The thing is it breaks up the solidity of the hunter ... that's why stripes and spots are on the animals . Lord I just thought ... if I'd wear my ghillie in africa the plant eaters would probably try to eat me !  LOL   It works here .... gotta tie on 100 more sneaky leaves on mine ... the guys here yell " Look at that bush drivin that ATV ! " Man I'm slow as heck tying them on  ... hate it ... wife won't do it . Seems most animals spot the hunters and photographers right away in most african shows and they have to take off running ... whereas with it I think they'd do alot better .
