What do you guys think of this bullet for deer hunting?  A local store has Federal Premium's with this bullet discounted for $16.97 per box of 20.  It looks like a great deal and I'm thinking about picking up a few boxes.  They seem to be similar to core-loks and power points.  Let me know what you think!

I agree, they are very simular to core-lok type bullets, especially sierras.  This isn't a bad thing, nothing wrong with a standard cup and core bullet.

What caliber?  I'd say they will do fine in something like a 7-08, 308, 270 etc.

I LUV em! Been using the 150gr .308's in my .300 for almost 30yrs. They were designed by Nosler to give similar performance to the Partition in that the front part will fragment causing internal damage but the long soild base will keep on penetrating. Some guys I reloaded for kinda didn't like them because they didn't do "ENOUGH" damage. They are the "hardest" cup and core bullet I've ever used but they do exactly what I want a bullet to do,kill quickly w/ minimal meat damage. Even used them on groundhogs w/ little meat damage when lung shot. I'll tell you they did less meat damage on up close shots than the 180gr Hornady Interlocks I decided to use when Nosler discontiued the SB and until I bought(hopefully)a life time supply during Nosler's short reintro a while back.

That's cheaper than a lot of pistol ammo I see.  I think a good stock pile of factory ammo is a pratical investment right now.

Sorry, I thought I posted they are .270!    Do you think they are much better than the "blue box" federals?  I can't find this ammo on Federals website, so they must not make this combo anymore.  Like I said, $16.97 per box of 20 and they are the Premium ones.

take em!

Tell ya what. Try'em and if you don't like I'll buy'em from you. Forgot to say in my post that, just like the BT's,the SB's were known for their accuracy.

From what I've read, they are "better" than the blue box federal.  That does sound like a good price for them, also.

Buy them while you can get them at that price.  In my experience, these bullets penetrate better than ballistic tips.  I have had ballistic tips fail to exit on occasion.  I have not recovered a solid base yet.  Don't get me wrong, the deer died even when the bullet didn't exit, but I prefer an exit wound so that I have a good blood trail in thick cover.

Use a .458 Lott... you won't need a blood trail.

i had one experience with them that almost went terrible bad. about 5 years ago i had a box of those federal's you are talking about. i loaned my 300wsm to my wife's cousin he wanted to take it into the field, he had a dandy 8 point run out in front of him about 250 yds and he took a good shot and the deer fell down but then got back up and ran away, we gathered up a search party and made some drives to hopefully push the wounded deer around some and we found it almost dead 4 hrs later, another of my wifes cousins had to shoot it again, that bullet was perfect when we found it later while skinning that huge buck out, other than rifling marks it was perfect, no expansion what so ever. it was requested by nosler to be returned for testing, after i talked to a federal sales rep, so we sent it in and they deemed it a defective bullet, it acted like a solid instead of a controlled expansion bullet. so im not a  fan of them

ive seen it happen twice now, the other was an elk my dad shot about 12-13 yrs ago with his 30-30, 150gr sierra round nose, all it did was push the lead tip into the bullet other wise it was perfect.

Pyro, was the whole box/lot bad or just that one bullet?  Did you test any of the others in the box?  Not sure I'd base my decision on one bullet.
