I'm sure you all have heard that one before...

Anyway, first post from the land of green and RUST...Oregon.

I wasn't sure where to post this, but since it was tactical in nature, I thought I'd start here.

I've been looking for a 1-4 or 5x scope for a while now.  One that caught my eye, since it's home-based here in Oregon, and the price was right...Leupold 1-4x20 VX-I.

My thoughts were to mount this on a 16" AR carbine, A3 flat top.  I know, it's not an Aimpoint/Trijicon/Eotech/etc.  Fact is, I already have others set up that way.  This was one that I wanted to set up possibly for some 3-gun, QCB, with a little variable power to reach out.

I'd appreciate any thoughts, feedback on good/no good/run like h3ll, whatever.  Also what mounts.  As this gun will mostly get used by the wife and kid, I'm not looking to drop $3-400 on a quick disconnect with a $200 scope on it.  I do have some Leupold QR high rings, but I'll have to find them and check to see if they'll work on this.  I had basically limited the possiblities down to the Weaver 1-3x or the Millet DMS1, then found this one.  And after seeing that this scope was available in the Flat Earth finish, as is the AR that it's going onto, well...the other VOICE in the house picked this one.

So, hello again from a noob.  Hope to pick your brains for more info, and hopefully be able to contribute any and all that I can.  Thanks again in advance,

Slo

I don't have a lot of optic experience, but the scope that I was the most dissapointed with was my 1-4X20 VXI.  I sold it shortly after purchasing it.  The scope held zero and I never had a problem with it, but the scope was not clear at all.  Maybe the VXII might be decent, but I'm sure there are better low powered scopes at similar prices than the VXI.

well, maybe i'll keep looking at the other two i listed.

thanks again for the welcomes.

So a person who asks for opinions on a couple different scopes that I don't have any experience with, hence the question is a Troll?  Or was it because I added a scope I had not seen before I posted my original question?

Sorry for wasting your time.

There has been a post that has been edited out by the mods. I seen the one that Steel was referring to.

I've checked out the Millet. The only heartburn I had with it was the size, It's a big scope for what it does, but I liked the reticle, and it seemed decent for the price.

Not you!!!    >>>======> the Real Troll ,  that was trying to sell some unrelated product that got his post deleted.   Now for the scope set up since you are talkina an AR and wanting a traditional optic in a somewhat low power I will throw out a couple of ideas for you to consider.  Please note that fixed power scopes are a lot tougher than a variable. The one variable I listed below the Bushnell 1-4 has held up to my youngest sons abuse fairly well so it may be what you are looking for but I think you could work with any of these. I didnt list the high end stuff Trijicon s etc but that would work.

First of all, if you really want a scope that will color match with the rifle, then your options are limited and you have to go with a Leupold (unless you want to buy a much more expensive ACOG).

Assuming you want to stay under $200 scope price, there are not all that many options available.  Also, at this price point, less is more.  What I mean is that trying to get a lot of different features is likely to detract from the basics of the scope.

With that in mind, I would certainly recommend Weaver V3 as the best bang for the buck in the price range.  It is a very basic scope that is unencumbered with any of the unnecessary stuff and is very well made for the money.

Another good option is Vortex Diamondback 1.75-5x32.

If you expand your price range a bit (to $300 for example), you will find quite a few interesting options there like Nikon Monarch 1-4x20, Weaver Grand Slam 1.5-5x32.
