I just found a couple sets of these in 10x42 for sale for around $550 and wondered how good they really are.  From what I've seen they were selling for over $1000 not long ago before the HD became the standard for high end binos.  Anyone looked through them and are they a bargain for that price?

Thanks in advance!

The original Razor was a good deal when introduced, but I would not pay $550 for them today, regardless of what they cost then.  If you want Vortex, then the Talon HD will easily best the original Razor.  There are just too many newer binoculars that best the original Razor that don't even cost $500.

Along with the Talon, the ZEN ED3, the Kruger Caldera, the Theron Wapiti APO-ED are the ones I have the most experience with that I know from firsthand experience will best the original Razor.  Others I have seen some of, but need more time to evaluate fully, include the Sightron SIII, sightron SIIILR, the Alpen Wings ED, and the Minox Comfort Bridge.  You may well be able to find a Leupold Gold Ring for about that too.  I might suggesst waiting a few weeks for the appearance of the ZEN Prime as well.

Now there is nothing wrong with the original Razor.  It is a nice, well built binocular.  I just happen to think you can do better for your $$$.
