does anyone have an opinion about the nikon 4.5-14x40 buckmaster. i am scoping an ar-10 and saw the scope on the shelf in the store. since the scope is in the same store i'm buying the ar from it would be convenient.

Me too, on the 3x9x40 Nikon Buckmaster.  I'm using a Silver one on a 7mm Weatherby.

i was going to order a super sniper 10 but i saw the nikon there and it's easier to have him throw it on the ar-10 before i pick it up. is this a stupid idea ? is this ss10x that much better that i should pull out the credit card (when there is room on it) because i can pay off the scope over time.

Me too. Had one on a .300 Rum for a while and it performed great.

POI never moved.

I think the Monarch is a better scope though, for a few bucks more.

But, if you have a fixed budget, by all means go with the BM.

I also have a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40 in silver finish. I have used this on my .50 cal Knight muzzleloader with great success over the past 3 years. If you are talking about the new Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 with the side focus parallax and upgraded oiptics I would go for it.  The Buckmaster is a good scope for the money. The Monarch is quite a bit better but they are not offered with side focus as yet. Personally I prefer side focus parallax on any scope that I need for long range shooting. It is just easier and more convenient to use than an adjustable parallax on the objective.

Nikon Buckmaster is a decent scope allright, but it is not in the same class with Super Sniper.  Super SNiper is certainly a better scope.

Buckmaster competes directly against Burris Fullfield II and Fullfield II is a better scope, so you may want to consider that also.
