I am new to the site and first of all let me say how much I enjoy reading the forums, excellent information. I have been searching for a scope for around 3 months for my browning 223 WSSM and finally narrowed it down to a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 and a Nikon Monarch 6-24x50. I have been on all kinds of optic websites and ocassionally would get sidetracked by cheaper models made by Zos, Leapers or similar brands. Since price was a bit of an issue I did check them out though. By the way you might think taking this long to find a scope is a bit excessive but if you had to pay canadian prices for scopes you might not think that way. Last year bought a Leupold VX1 4-12x40 for my deer rifle for $289 in the US. That same low end Leupold sells here for just under $500. I am pretty cheap and I dont like to throw money away if I dont have to. Anyway I thought why buy one of the cheaper brands for $200-$300 for something I'm not sure about when that cash would pay for half of a scope that I am confident in. So to make a long story short I am waiting on delivery of my Nikon which I purchased in the US for $580 (which by the way sells here for $835) and I have no doubt I'll enjoy years of long range varmint shooting.

I've heard nothing but praise for the new Monarchs, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. |

The Vortex is a nice scope but feel it's not as reliable as a Elite series or Sightron from my experience.I had a Vortex Viper fog up on me so I well stick with what works in the field. The Nikon Monarch Gold series is the only Nikon I would consider, compares to the Zeiss Conquest in low light.

Sure Zeiss always sounds great but the with the magnification I want it would cots me well over $1000 by time I add the exchange and get it shipped here and I don't think the monarch gold even have a high mag. scope for long range.

Don't have a vortex but i've seen thru one. The nikon has a brighter image but seems it's prone to haze or sun glare at higher powers compared to the vortex. The vortex loses out in terms of brightness but at higher powers image seems better because of the hazy image. I've noticed the monarch line specially at hi powers like 15x or above, image is somewhat compromised by the white haze because of the reflection of ambient light on the front part of the inner tube. It can be minimized by correct eye placement but it takes some getting used to. I'm not sure if they remedied this already.
