Anybody used one of these?? If so, would you comment on the scope in question??
I have only held one a few times, but was very impressed by it's features. Heavy duty!!!
TIA.... |

Cheaptrick, check out the review at http://www.snipersparadise.com/newproducts/nikon416.htm Very informative and might give you the info you need to make a decision. If I had the $$$ right now, I would most definately buy one.

Thanks, Philip. I have seen that review before.
I have exchanged emails with Dave B. before. First class person, and optics expert, to be sure. I have also seen a great write up by Mike Miller as well. He was also impressed. I was looking at getting one for the next rifle project that comes up. Funny, I always seem to get the scope first, then find a rifle to put under it!!...LOL.... |

Riflman accidentally deleted his post, so I'm quoting it here so it appears in logical sequence...
Riflman:
"This is probably the finiest scope I have ever owned, and I have had just about everything on my rifles including NightForce NXS, and up in price. It was the only piece of gear I owned that didn't get infiltrated by kalahari red desert dust during my time in Africa this spring. It is amazingly tough, and well....just amazing. It was terribly abused and performed flawlessly despite being bounced around in the back of the toyota for weeks, banged on rocks and well...I won't say what else lest I embarass myself. :)
The turrets are big and beefy and the clicks are perfect, not mushy like you sometimes get on tactical scopes. The return to zero is excellent. I did not notice a change of impact at all after adjusting the turrets. The dual color of illumination in my model is very cool and surprisingly useful. What I found really amazing was that unlike all my other optics, while I could see the red sand and dust around the turrets and power ring, I have no grating when turning them. The other optics like my spotter zoom eyepiece and my binocular eyecups sound like someone scraping their nails on a chalkboard. Ouch! Not so with the Nikon, the side focus and the power ring are as smooth as ever.
The lower power of 2.5 is also very useful in low light or for emergency CQB applications, and while the objective is only 44 compared to my 5.5-22x56 Nightforce NXS, I never really noticed the difference in brightness. Having the ability to mount the scope a little lower is nice too. Weight-wise, this is still a heavy scope. It is reasonably short, but fat and beefy. I think they have a winner here. This is the scope for which I will judge all others from now on."

You won't like what's on that rifle now. It's the big Nasty! The USS will replace it when it gets here. For whatever reason, I like swapping glass back and forth on rifles, almost as much as I like changing bullets loads for each rifle. We all need a hobby. By the way, I was out popping coke cans pretty regular at 500 yards the other day with that rifle from my truck window.
My buddy said, "Yeah but you NEVER miss from the truck window...!" I didn't know what the xxxx he was talking about!
Here's a typical group using the Nikon scope on that rifle.
Notice the horizontal dispersion is much smaller than the vertical. It shoots better than I can....

More than I have needed on my .338 Win Mag and .300 Ultra Mag. I think the specs say ~3.5"
