The Nikon tactical is slightly more expensive, but regardless of price which scope do you think is "better"?
XOTIC or Nikon tactical 4-16x50? |

I believe you and I have the same dilemma. Though I am
considering the new Burris XTR 3x12x50 rather then the Nikon.
After reading the reviews on Opticstalk the XOTIC sounds like the better deal (and available today). My only reservations is the XOTIC company is new, and small. Can I expect them to still be around a year from now if a knob falls off or one of the optics fell out of its mount?? Anyone know of their customer support? |

I read on a thread here somewhere that SWFA is actually going to back these scopes if XOTIC folds. I don't know if that means repair, or replacement with a similar scope. I also don't know if this is true or not.
I don't expect XOTIC to fold, as everything that I've read about them is positive, but you never know.
I'm with you though, the XOTIC sounds like a better deal, but I wouldn't hesitate to go with Nikon, a world leader in optics who isn't going anywhere.
Desicions..... |

Brew,
I saw a RUMINT (Rumor Intelligence) that suggested that the XOTIC group actually is SWAF''s future Super Sniper scope, under a different name to see if a different banner would sell better or not. Ya gotta admit, the whole "sensitive nature of their existing positions is such that the identity of X.O.T.I.C. principals WILL NOT be disclosed to civilians and company officials WILL NOT be available for media interviews." (a la XOTIC web site) thing is kinda fishy, eh? If I knew for 100% sure that SWFA was backing XOTIC, I'd put my money down in a heartbeat. Chris has never done me wrong! The only thing preventing me (and I am seriously debating) is the weight factor. Between the XOTIC and Burris XTR there is about 1lbs of difference. Trying to keep the weight down. And where are all the XOTIC owners?? Thought they would of chinmed in by now. |

I haven't even seen a XOTIC scope, but I would still go with the Nikon. It's a fine scope in it's own right, and with a 50mm objective mounts lower to the receiver.
That 56mm objective is a turn off for me. Optically, the XOTIC is supposed to be very nice. |

Using a 2 piece MILSTD 1913 rail, High Lupy 1-inch rings and a 40mm
scope, I currently have about 1/4 of an inch of clearance between the
bottom of the scope and the top of the barrel. Thinking I may be
able to get away with the 56mm Obj, and high rings and still not have
to worry about getting a higher after market cheek weld device.
May not be able to use flip up caps though. Have the same problem
on my Ruger 10-22. Have to use Bulter Creek Bikni covers, and
they do ok. Again, I think weight is more of an issue for me.

Beer,
Well, after much mulling, I decided the heck with it, and went with the XOTIC. Supposed to ship today. Probably be here Friday or next Monday. IF you can wait a week or so, I will give you my 2 cents in a down and dirty review. Plan on writting up a more formal review to submit to Sniper's Paradise of my new rig. Will keep you in the know! Good shooting! |

Where is the XOTIC made?
I am waiting to outfit my .308 Savage with Farrell rings and base but can't decide on a scope.
Right now my choices are Burris XTR, XOTIC or Leupold (a bit pricey).
any input appreciated!! |

I think I read somewhere/someone said USS scopes were made in Japan.
Here is their web site URL http://xoticoptics.com/XOTIC_Home.htm Yeah, I was having the same decision problem. From what I have seen I like the Burris for what you get for the $$ you spend. But I ordered in May assuming a end of May shipping date. May came and went, June came and went and now we are here in mid July. Got extra $$ saved up so I said what the heck. Farrell rings? Where they out of?? After talking (well, emailing) Dave, SWFA customer service rep, I went with IOR high rings. It will be here Monday, will let you know how it looks/feels/fits. |

XOTIC USS: This thing is BIG! Hefty too! While it is
heavier then a 40mm scope, it is not so much of a overwhelming
difference. I think the performance of the 56mm objective
justifies the weight. The glass is very clear, and very
bright. Matte black finish was flawless. The 1st plane
mil-dot reticle when cranked all the way up to x16 does not obstruct
the target as I feared it would. When turned down to x4 the
reticle appears more of a CQC reticle. The mil-dots at this power
are still viewable but not by much. All the knobs were very stiff
initially. After a few twists, they loosened up. Which
brings me to my one and only complaint: A small, but noticeable,
amount of play (1 or 2 millimeter) in the elevation knob between
clicks. While I was mildly disappointed, I was impressed with the
rest of the scope to ask for an exchange, rather then a refund.
The free sun shade and Mil-Dot Master also helped lessen the
disappointment.
The IOR Heavy Duty 30mm rings are just that, Heavy Duty. I think they weighed more then the scope . . . no joke . . . really, they were heavy. As soon as I saw them I knew they would be too high on my rifle. Sure enough, they changed my cheek weld to middle to lower jaw line weld. So I sent it all back for another XOTIC (they deserve a second chance), and some low rings. I hope in 2 weeks to be able to give a field report of the XOTIC. Till then, good shooting! |
