Does any one know what year Nikon first introduced their rifle scopes to the US market?

1981 is shown as the first year of the nikon "fieldscope" i assume this was a rifle scope, but i could be wrong. where the heck is ed when i need him?

Thanks much. Back then I don't think they had series like Buckmaster and Monarch.They were just Nikon rifle scopes correct?.
