I have a 45/70 rifle that I am going to mount a Nikon Pro Staff scope on.  I am trying to decide between the plain (Nikoplex) and the BDC reticle.  Will the BDC offer any type of use with such a short shooting rifle or is it just something "to get in the way"?  I figured that the BDC recticle is calculated for a much longer range shooting rifle, but I am not sure.  Has anyone out there used the BDC with either a 45/70 or similar caliber rifle?  I will be mostly using the rifle for deer hunting and maybe a little plinking from time to time.  The range will usually be under 100 yards but you never know if you might get a shot at something a little longer distance.  Since I can order either one and it is only a few dollars difference in cost, I can't make up my mind.

You can use it with that caliber. Just figure the drop for your caliber, and assign the appropriate circle for the amount of drop.

+1 for plex, no need for BDC on 45/70.

In agreement with most!..............I`m not a BDC fan anyway! NO need for a BDC reticle on a 45/70. For hunting, just sight er in at 100 yards. Though you`ll still need to know your bullet trajectories or bullet drops out to 200 yards.
