Which is the better scope between the Nikon Prostaff and the Nikon Buckmaster II? I'm leaning toward the Prostaff for the simple fact of the Nikoplex reticle. It's for my son's .243 deer rifle he got for Christmas. Being his first rifle, I think regular crosshairs would be best...but still would like to know the differences between these two scopes. Thanks

I haven't checked out the BMll, or the newer Prostaffs admittedly, but the old BM's were superior to the Prostaff's optically, a few years back. Sorry.

I don't understand why Nikon refuses to put a Nikoplex reticle in the BMll's. That's a good reticle.

The BDC isn't a terrible reticle, is it?

Look for a used Nikon Monarch UCC.  About the same price and much better optics IMO.

ive heard the newer prostaffs r decent. i had an older one. biggest POS scope ive ever owned. ill own tasco and simmons again before another prostaff. the older buckmasters were good scopes but ive heard the newer ones arent near as good. look for a used monarch if youre set on nikon

There may be some more viable options for you in other brands.

Teach me ol' Wise one! LOL

I wanted to keep it somewhat inexpensive, but get the most for my money. SWFA has the Prostaff or the Buckmaster II 3-9x40 for $129. I just want the best I can get for $150 or so.

I'm really happy with my Nikon Omega I have on my Muzzleloader. It's super clear and lets  a lot of light in. Thus I'm happy with Nikon.

What say you? Bushnell? Redfield? Weaver?

id look at a weaver classic or redfield revolution over the nikon. minox makes a 3-9x40 that can be found around $150

A tad over your budget, but well regarded here.

I think if you raise your "sights" Wink to about $200, you'll be much happier over all.

The Vortex is well worth the extra money.
