I'm looking for some advise on which scope to get for my SBH hunter 44 mag. I like the 2x nikon alot but, am worried about low light performance. No place near me has the bushnell elite 3200 2x6 to look at. I looked at a trophy 2x6 and didn't care for it much. Is there alot of diff. between 3200 and trophy? I've had problems with Burris so that's out. Any help would be appriciated

I would go with a 2x Leupold VX II it is hard to hand hold anything with very high power. I have had mixed results with Burris their 1x is awesome but the 3-12 sucks

I have the 2x Leupold on a 44mag TC and it has held up to the recoil.  I have found that 2x is about all the magnification I am comfortable with on a handgun.  I use a  2x Sightron on my 30-30 barrel and it is a very bright scope, brighter than the Leupold, but I like the reticle on the Leupold better.  I had a 2x Burris for a time, but had problems with the posi-lock and traded it off.

The Burris 2-7X32 is a LOT better in low light than the 2X.  I keep mine on about 2.5 but can use it up to 5X with a good rest for long distance (100yds).  6-7X is worthless.

.........................Another scope to consider, that is on sale at SWFA, assuming they still have inventory, is the Nikon Monarch 2.5-8x28 UCC EER @ only $189. I have two. This scope is normally $289 anywhere else......Even though 7x or 8x (great for paper punching), is more than what you`ll need for the 44 mag., this scope @ $189 will give you the best bang for your buck............Great read about this scope at ......"shootingtimes.com"........"optics section"......"Dual Purpose Optics from Nikon" by Dick Metcalf. Hopefully that article is still there..........IMO, better glass than the Burris 2x7, the Elite 3200 and certainly gives nothing away to the Leupold.

I think I've decided to get the 3200 elite 2x6, hopefully from SWFA if they will price match where I found it.

I also vote for either the Leupold 2x or the Nikon 2.5x8. I have both one on a S&W 44mag and the othe ron a S&W 460. They both are bright and hold zero perfectly.
I would have gone with 2 Nikons but the 44 mag has a shorter barrel and wanted the scope to compact.
I have had Burris 2x7 and Bushnell variables on handguns in the past but after side by side comparision to the above I didn't care for them and since sold them.

I have a 2x Leupold on my Redhawk and like it a lot. I have shot deer in the thick stuff in the evening at sunset before and it was okay. The 2x Nikon should be very good.
My 2-7 Burris is the older version from mwyates and is not the same comparison. That model has the straight tube and I suspect 20mm objective. It sits on a .223 barrel for my Contender and is not good in low light. The other variables with 32mm or similar objectives should perform better.
