ANyone have any first hand experience with these. Specifically the 10.5 x 45? Looking to get a midrange set of binocs (my first pair) and these are on my highlist. Or if anyone has some higher quality used binos for sale, let me know.

And, how would this compare to the Pentax DCP 10 x 43 SP?

All in all I really do not like the Monarch X.  There are a couple of reasons for this.  The first is purely ergonomic.  With that stupid rod between the hinges, you can forget about getting  your hands around the barrel of the binocular.  One of the supposed advantages of the double hinge design is to be able to grip securely with one hand.  Forget it with the X.  It also does not help to get a decent two hand hold either.

The image is better than the Monarch ATB.  It is a little brighter and has better contrast, but it still has the relatively narrow fov of the ATB.  For the price difference, that fov should have increased, although the 10.5x is about on par or better than other mid price 10x.  However the are most of the other binoculars in that price range which still beat the X.  They could also have produced full dielectric prism coatings and made a bit better image than you get for the price.  However the image quality is good and will likely suit most people who use it.

Luctytuma is correct in that it is not the equal of the less expensive ZEN ED 2.  I would call it just about equivalent of the Pentax DCF SP series.

fwiw, pulled the trigger today on a pair of 10 x 42 Vortex Razor. Not knowing anymore than I do about binocs, hopefully these will fulfill my expectations.

Hi from Australia, I am new to this forum but not to usung fine binoculars.  I have been a keen binocular lover for a long time and I have just bought a pair of Monarch x 10.5 x 45 binoculars from the States on Ebay. Retail here a wopping $1,500.00 ...reputable ebay seller...$600.00 US.. amazing difference in price and don't ask me why.I have used them many times and each time I have been delighted with their performance.  My bench mark is a pair of 17 year old Leica 10x42 Trinovids...a great binocular and one I constantly refer back to in estimating quality in comparisons. The new technology in todays optics, particularly Nikon Monarch series is amazing.  The new Monarch X are beautifully crafted with optics to match. They really are a delight to use especially for birding or hunting. I use mine nearly every day in my job and have found them to be exceptional.  The fit and comfort in the hand is much better than my Leicas..weight it an important part of my choice and I have found them to be really easy to hang off my neck for lengthy periods of time. Can't praise them enough and I also purchased them a pelican crush proof case to live in, piece of mind and worth looking after. Get hold of a pair and see what I'm talking about.  Good luck and happy focus....cheers...the focus
