Not sure yet Birdwatcher but, I will say at that price range they are going to have to be pretty darn good to compete with the Vortex Vipers IMHO.

I had opportunity to look at these at the NW Sportsman's show in Portland.  They are just about like the Viper optically.  They are also better than the current ATB.  That rod down the center of the hinge is wierd to say the least.  It leaves no room to wrap your fingers around the barrels.   They are also Japanese.  They have the eye cup and diopter arrangement of the ATB, but the construction looks and feels better.
 
There did not seem to be a tripod adapter, so the rod may serve that purpose with the right kind of adapter.
 
I asked the Nikon rep why they did that.  With a perfectly straight face he said, there will be a picatinny rail for that rod so you can put accessories on the binocular. Big Smile.  It took a few seconds to figure he was joking.
