I was all set to buy the Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 when I noticed a refurbished Nikon Monarch 3-9x40 on the Samplelist for $199.00.  That is $100.00 off the normal price.

Is the Monarch a better scope than the $199.00 Burris?  Should I be concerned that this scope is "refurbished"?  Does Nikon still warrant this product since it is refurbished?  Thanks for all the help.

You are guaranteed that the scope is in working and undameged condition, unless the discription states otherwise. In my opinion the monarchs have alot better glass, adjustment knobs, and power selecor. the burris scopes are nice but the entire eyepeice turns when you adjust the magnification and if you have flip up lense cover on it things get complicated. The adjustments for the turrets are actually finger adjustable on the monarch, but the burris can be done without a coin of screwdriver, but it is hard.

If it was me I would get the nikon monarch, and I think that most people on the forum would agree.

I recall it posted somewhere on this site that refurbished Nikons have a 90 day warranty.  If it breaks after that, you are out of luck.

So there is no warranty?

Best I can remember, not after 90 days.

It was posted by Brady in this thread:

I have a couple of Monarch's and have had a 3x9 Fullfield II.  To my eyes there is no comparison.  The Monarch is way better optically.  The Fullfield II compares more favorably to the Buckmaster.

Monarch is a superior scope.  Warranties are nice, but usually not needed.  Most scopes are much tougher than people give them credit for.

Apparently you have to pay an extra 80 bucks for that...

I noticed no one from SWFA responded to this post.  Does "that" mean something?

That would typically mean that this thread slipped under the radar, and they did not see it.

You can always PM Brady or Stephanie.

I would be able to tell if there was something wrong with the scope within the 90 day warranty so I dont think I would be hesitant to buy it. Most guys are not real rough with their scope and even if you do have a problem with it several years down the line you only have $200 invested in it and that's nothing compared to what it is possible to spend on a scope.

Your wallet must be thicker than mine.

Seems to me,if a company is gonna claim Full Warranty on a scope, they should stand by it.

Just got the scope from UPS today.  Great service from Samplelist.   Thanks for all the help.  Scope looks brand new.  I think it was worth going the refurbished route to move up to a Monarch.

Also, I read somewhere that Nikon will warrant refurbished merchandise for 90 days, and after the 90 days, they only charge $10.00 for repairs.  Is this true?  Does this pertain to Rifle-scopes too, or is that just with other Nikon refurbished products?  Thanks much for all the help.  This site is awesome.
