Monarch's are clearer than the Leupold VX-II.  As far as toughness, I don't know.

The Nikon Monarch is better in low light better lenses. The Leupold VX-II is over priced. To be honest both scopes are a tie in durabilty.

I thinks it only fair to compare the vx3 scope with the monarch.

I'll take the monarch over a vxII, but I'd take the vx3 over the monarch. Check out the samplelist.com, some really good prices on factory seconds from nikon and leupold.

I agree.  One thing about Nikon seconds/refurbished scopes, they only carry a 90 day warranty (which is why I won't get one (I had a Nikon Monarch fail on my after 5-years of use).

Folks, those Leupold VX-3's are a good scope and mine is pretty close to my Zeiss Comquest.

Yes the new VX3 is a good scope. The Nikon is hit or miss with many of there scopes when it comes to the way they hold up.For the money Nikon has a good product but for someone like me who hunts I found they dont hold up.The Elite 3200/4200 is a strong well made scope.

FWIW the VX-II 4x12 is not a true 4x12 the upper power is only 11.4X. I got this from the Leupold Website.  A buddy and I compared the VX-II 4x12x50 and the Nikon Buckmaster 4x12x50 head to head about 2 years ago.  The Buckmaster was handsdown the brighter scope in both his and my opinions.
