I am trying to decide betwwen these two scopes.  It will go on a Win model 70 30-06 for deer/elk hunting.   I have heard some cons on each.

Bushnell 4200-  Eye relief is finicky/short  and click adjustment range is small (not as great as monarch)

Monarch - not as clear optics as 4200

Right now the 4200 is $80 cheaper than the monarch.  what to do??????

I have two of the 4200s, 3-9x though.  I ran one on a 45-70 and a 7mm for a while.  Eye relief was usable.  But adding a butler creek cap on it I got popped with the 45-70 once.  I was shooting uphill at the time.

THey have enough adjustment for a hunting scope.  It is not like on that type of scope you are going to be moving them up and down a lot anyway.

I have never had a Monarch, so I cannot comment on them.

Hi Ted.

I have both scopes that you listed (not in the power range).  In fact I have multiples of them on different guns.  Two of them being the 30/06.  IMO with my eyes, I cannot tell much difference between them.  I use them for hunting, not paper punching.  Both do well in low light.  Both have reasonable eye relief.  There is a member on this site (koshkin) that provides indepth engineering based reviews of optics.  Here is a link to his website and the review of the scopes you are asking about.  Hope this helps your selection.

The Elite will also have the rainguard that is great for hunting!

Those scopes are quite comparable, although both companies occasionally get poor customer service reviews (especially Bushy lately).

IMO, the safer bet is the Nikon.

I'm a big fan of the rainguard feature and not a big fan of the nikon bdc reticle (hate the circles).  A Monarch with the plex would be fine and I think these scopes are optically comparable.

i would buy the 4200 and not look back. im not sure that scope is breakable. mine has been on 2 hard kickers and im not affraid of it going to hell. im not a big fan of nikon or bushy's cs dept, vortex on the other hand, love em. rainguard alone is priceless.

I would lean towards the 4200 due to the Rainguard. Both are nice scopes though.
