I have never had a scope with a 20mm objective lens. I know that exit pupil is what is supposed to matter most but that sure does seem like a small lens. I was thinking of putting one of these NIKON shotgun scopes on my Marlin 30-30. Is it a better choice than a Nikon Prostaff in 2-7x32? Will it be any brighter or at least as bright as the 32mm Prostaff? I can get the Nikon Monarch used for about the same price as a new Prostaff. Opinions on this scope are very welcome.

Depending on my needs, I have a 1.5-5x20 VX3 that I rotate between a .375 Ruger Alaskan and a .300 WSM Ruger compact.
A low variable with a 20mm objective, offers wide FOV`s on the low power and frankly imo, looks better on a handy lever rifle than would a 2x7 with a larger objective bell. A 1.5-4.5x20 is more than ample magnification for hunting uses on a 30-30.
I`d go for the Monarch with the 20mm objective as opposed to the 32mm Prostaff. If there is any light gathering difference, it will be minimal at best imo.
