It looks like Nikon is introducing a new Nikon Monarch African in 1-4x20. Very reasonably priced to. As a Nikon Monarch fan I'm just curious if anybody here has had a good look at one?

I'm thinking about picking up a 45-70 lever gun this coming summer and my old eyes aren't what they used to be so a low power (true 1x) scope might be fun. It looks like the Nikon has a whole lot more eye relief than a Weaver V3.

I have not looked through one, but this new Nikon African should be just as good as any of the lower priced Monarchs and should compete very well with the VX111`s optically. It is not quite as light in weight as the lower powered VX11`s and 3`s.

I like this scope. Has good consistent eye relief, should have very good glass AND YA GET get an animal on the turret too!

It`s about time Nikon came out with a nice lower powered variable Monarch, but I`m not trading in my 1.5-5x20 VX111 to get one.

Thanks for the information. It has my curiosity up. I'd really like to know if it's a true 1x. A 45-70 is realistically a 150yd rifle before holdover gets to be about much for me to feel good about a shot. Of course I really have no need of a 45-70. It's more of a case of "I wantitis". We'll see if the money is there this summer.

Hey guys, when I asked Koshkin about this scpe he told me that he had only looked at it at the SHOT show but felt that the eye relief specs were a bit optomistic. I reckin with that wide FOV something had to give.

"I Wantitis" is perfect reason for buying this scope and once you do get it, let us know what you think.

Nikon used to have a Monarch UCC 1x4x20 rifle scope that they quit making a few years ago.  I bought one on closeout and have it on one of my coyote calling rifles.  It has prove to be a very nice scope.

I have had a 1.5-4.5x Nikon Monarch on various rifles for several years. It's an excellent scope in every way, with more than sufficient eye relief on a 6-pound .338 Federal. If the new model is better, why not?
