I don't know anout the Ultravids or FL's (haven't tried them), but in my experience, the 10x42 Venturer/LX's were better optically than two pair of 10x42 EL's I've owned, and at least as good as the Leica BA/BN's I've owned.
As previously posted, the older Venturer/LX's and the newer LXL's are the same optically. If there's a drawback to the Venturer/LX's it's their weight, but the newer LXL is approximately 6oz. lighter, which puts them within an ounce or two of the Zeiss FL's and Leica Ultravids. IMHO, you can't go wrong with the Nikon LXL's. You get world class glass at substantial savings over the european stuff, so what's not to like...?
