My wife bought me a Savage 116FCSS in 300 win mag for my birthday.  I know, I am so lucky.  Anyways, I am leaning towards Nikon because I like their scopes and they have good value for money.  I have looked through Leupold's and Swarovski's and its not worth the money to me for the better optics.  I guess I am not very observant, but its hard for me to tell the difference. So I have 2 scopes that I am looking at 3-12 X 42SF Monarch #8420 and the Nikon IRT #8477.  The difference is really that the IRT incorporates the rangefinder into the scope.  I love this feature.  I can leave my rangefinder at home.  Also it doesn't need rings, just mounts flat to a base.  I guess I like it because I can imagine it being very quick to target and fire, while eliminating alot of movement while juggling rangefinders and rifles.

Shooting Steps w/out IRT.
1) Locate Target.
2) Use rangefinder to target yardage.
3) Hope target doesn't move while setting up rifle.
4) Set up rifle, possible re-range again, fire.

Shooting with IRT
1) Locate Target
2) Range, Fire

So does anyone have either scope on a similar rifle?  Is it worth the money over a regular Monarch?  Does it handle recoil?

Thanks in advance to all the replies.  I have enjoyed reading/ lurking on this forum for a while.

No Nikon IRT....3 inches of eye relief for a 300 Win Mag doesn't sound good...looks ugly...will not be as parallax adjustment for actually taking the 400-600 yard shots with the BDC reticle.

Its better to just get the 3-12 Monarch if you like the BDC reticle.

I have the Nikon IRT on a Remington 700 Etronx in 220 Swift.  I've had no parallax problems whatsoever.  Eye relief is better than 3inches for me.  I've also had it on 7mmMag and 30-06 with no problems.  Only shot it out to 500yds... with the Etronx, consistently under 1/2 MOA.  The Monarch won't provide you any better than that.  Only got a few hundred rounds on it using the various rifles, but it is holding up well so far.  One range day, I swapped it back and forth between the 30-06 and the 220, fired 78 rounds of -06 and 100 rounds of .220 Swift.  I like it...
