My wife bought me a Savage 116FCSS in 300 win mag for my birthday. I know, I am so lucky. Anyways, I am leaning towards Nikon because I like their scopes and they have good value for money. I have looked through Leupold's and Swarovski's and its not worth the money to me for the better optics. I guess I am not very observant, but its hard for me to tell the difference. So I have 2 scopes that I am looking at 3-12 X 42SF Monarch #8420 and
the Nikon IRT #8477. The difference is really that the IRT
incorporates the rangefinder into the scope. I love this feature. I
can leave my rangefinder at home. Also it doesn't need rings, just
mounts flat to a base. I guess I like it because I can imagine it
being very quick to target and fire, while eliminating alot of movement
while juggling rangefinders and rifles.
Shooting Steps w/out IRT. 1) Locate Target. 2) Use rangefinder to target yardage. 3) Hope target doesn't move while setting up rifle. 4) Set up rifle, possible re-range again, fire. Shooting with IRT 1) Locate Target 2) Range, Fire So does anyone have either scope on a similar rifle? Is it worth the money over a regular Monarch? Does it handle recoil? http://www.savagearms.com/116fcss.htm http://www.nikonhunting.com/ http://www.nikonhunting.com/riflescopes-monarch-monarch-3-12x42sf.html Thanks in advance to all the replies. I have enjoyed reading/ lurking on this forum for a while. Bill |
