I am intrugued by this spotting scope. I like the size and I think 30X would be all I'd ever need. It has ED glass, so it should be top quality. At $700, would I be stupid to buy one of these? Would a 15-45X60 at 30X look very different (assuming everything else was equal)? Thanks

I have not seen that small scope yet. However, if you look at birdforum.net or .org you will find a long list of positive comments. I will wait until they become common and the prices go down a bit before buying one. I will use it on a crbon fiber monopod for birding on the prairies and maybe on the coast. My guess is that the 50 mm ED scopes differ from 60 mm scopes only on very dark days and perhaps in the twilight of the morning and evening. I do have to comment that zoom eyepieces are not quite as bright as the fixed power ones, and that they have less field of view. It all depends on what you use the scope for. I will try to get a 15x eyepiece. |
